Description
In the early 1930s, the acceptance of women wearing pants in public was influenced by movies and movie stars. Folkwear offers historical knickers, trousers, and shorts patterns, each reflecting different eras.
The Knickers (c. 1931) feature a button-front fly closure, side pockets, and pleats below the knee with shaped cuffs and button closures.
Trousers (c. 1940) have a straight silhouette with a high, wide waistband, back darts, front pleats, and a zipper closure on the left side, falling gracefully straight from the hip to ankle-length.
Shorts (c. 1940) feature a back zipper closure and inverted box pleats at the front and back for a smooth hip fit, offering comfortable fullness at the legs.
Recommended Fabric
Knickers: Medium to heavy weight fabrics such as, cotton, linen, wool, or blends in broadcloth, homespun, or twill. Napped fabrics such as corduroy and velveteen are also suitable.
Trousers: Medium weight, soft fabrics with drape like wool gabardine or challis, as well as cotton or corduroy.
Shorts: Soft or slightly crisp, medium-weight fabrics such as wool challis, cotton, linen, rayon, or blends.
